Question To The Book Readers....

Should I watch the Stone films in the order they were made and shown on CBS or in the order of the novels?

No, I would suggest that you watch them in the order they were made. The screen writers took a great deal of poetic license in the order the films were made; and, some plot/incident carry-overs would be out of sequence if you watch in book publish date order.

For instance, STONE COLD was published in 2003, and DEATH IN PARADISE was published in 2001. Yet, STONE COLD was filmed in 2005, and DEATH was filmed in 2006. There is even a mention in DEATH (supposedly the earlier story) about something that takes place in STONE COLD.

Same thing with NO REMORSE and THIN ICE (listed by publication date order). Yet, ICE was filmed in 2009, while REMORSE was filmed in 2010.

For those of us who have read most of the books, this is VERY disconcerting.

Thanks for the input, Axel.

I should have mentioned that neither NO REMORSE or THIN ICE are based on Robert Parker books. They do, however, continue the story of Jesse Stone, and they use the same characters as in the preceeding movies.

Unfortunately, the writers were not very careful with continuity from one movie to the next. Based on the production date, AND most of what happens in the two movies, THIN ICE should be viewed before NO REMORSE, for the reasons below:

Alan, Gino Fish's male secretary is alive in ICE, but he is killed in REMORSE. However, a goof in continuity: Jesse is suspended without pay and is shown leaving Paradise, MA, in ICE, yet he is still there, though suspended, in REMORSE.

I just watched Thin Ice....again...and Jesse wasn't leaving for good. He was going to New Mexico to tell the mother whose baby was stolen that her baby/boy died. Typical Jesse behavior, not wanting to do it any other way but in person.

Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.
