A little too much cheese and cartoony. *spoilers*

What makes Thor:Ragnarok work very well is it came out of the blue and everyone was serious in their self-deprecating comedy. It was nuanced and not overdone and fit the tone well.

Now, if you keep overdoing the sarcasm and silly humor, it will start to get irritating.

That's what happened here. It was them getting carried away a bit too much imo. Thor should be a lot more serious and the chars around him also seem to be too casual. It's like S8 of a hit show where the actors/actresses are just not putting in their effort and are just coasting.

The new chars are also caught in this like Zeus - he was fun but a bit over the top with his Russian accent for a Greek and weird way he was with orgies and making Thor naked and the women ogling and then sighing when he's covered back up. I mean, this is like inappropriate. Imagine if the 2 women were stripped naked and the guys sigh when they're covered back up. It would be like rape type situation comparisons.

Also killing Zeus but not actually was ridiculous. The whole motivation of the God butcher is not delved into. He just walks around with his kid and then she passes away and he's on a rampage and accidentally gets some necro sword and starts killing gods and Zeus says they were lowly gods. WTF? Zeus and all are ok but carefully no modern gods are present. Felt out of touch imo. I mean, why not, if you're gonna turn some people's gods into cartoony heroes/villains, then why not the rest?

And I'm sick of every male actor's superhero having a female actresses superheroine equivalent. I mean, give it a rest. Superman/Supergirl, Batman/Batgirl/Batwoman, Hulk/She-hulk, Thor/Lady Thor, Spiderman/Spidergirl/Spiderwoman etc. But there's no equivalents for women created ones like there's no Catman nor Wonderman etc. This balance is not really there, it's more like idiocy in creating chars. (And I say this as a liberal Democrat).

The acting was just sub-par, the plot was comedic more than serious despite the material being interesting. They should've gone the serious route with vengeful gods like Zeus and some chars being killed permanently (looking at you Korg), no juvenile silly jokes with the goats and all, no Jane Fonda/Jodie Foster bs, Matt Damon bit etc.

It felt like stale recycled bread than fresh stuff. Thor is in great shape and looks like a god. Now they've made him cartoony and silly instead of serious that he was in Avengers/Thor movies mostly.

Christian Bale's motivation isn't explained and he could've simply talked it out and maybe Thor would've helped him get to the Eternity introduced figure (whoever that is now, clearly higher than Zeus and others). Russell Crowe could've been really great as a deviant Zeus with his acting chops as a serious guy. I mean you have Gladiator and Master and Commander of the Far Side of the World being made a joke. Valkyrie is a great char but made to look like a silly lesbian, Jane Foster is overdone and should be retired imo, Korg is overstaying his welcome tbh. The lone thing good are the lovely visuals and Heimdall was stellar imo for the few short bits at the end of credits. He truly felt like a god like Thor.

Let's hope the next one is better.

I rate this 6.5/10.

FAIR ENOUGH...YOU MAKE SOME VALID ARGUMENTS...I DISAGREE WITH YOU QUITE THOROUGHLY..BUT RESPECT YOUR OPINION...HOWEVER...

THIS IS STUPID AND EMBARRASSING.

Actually there is a Catman and Wonder Man in the comics. Catman is a minor villain of Batman and Wonder Man is a Marvel character who they have been talking about giving him a tv show. His powers are completely different from Wonder Woman.

INTERESTING.

Gorrs motivation is that he literally stood in front of The God of his people, praying for him to save his people, to give him his daughter back. His people had prayed and prayed during those really bad times but to no avail. What does his God do? Laugh in his face and basically calls him an expendable maggot. Then he gets corrupted by the Necrosword, going on a postal revenge trip all fueled by the Necosword.

Did you even watch the film? I was super baked, and saw it like a week ago and I still remember that. But I was also to busy enjoying a comic book, but in live action right in my TV.

I for one enjoy Silly Thor way more than any other Thor. For me, he's one of the easiest characters for me to convince myself that it's just a stupid movie, in that world that makes sense and it's just for entertainment.

It's also nice to see his story actually progressing.

While I enjoyed it, at times it was a little too silly. Also I was hoping for a real Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy team up rather than just a cameo by the team as James Gunn says volume 3 will be the last appearance by this Guardians team.

reply

Yeah, I'd love an Asguardians of The Galaxy film. But this was a Thor film. You know, tall, blonde, carries a hammer, travels with the sound of thunder?

reply

Korg wasn't necessary in the story neither was Sif.

reply

NO...KORG ROCKS AND IT WAS NICE TO SEE SIF...NADAHT OPINION ON THE FILM SEEMS TO BE FAIRLY CLOSE TO MY OWN.

reply

Korg for sure rocks.

Gorr's motivation seemed pretty clear, and Bale did a great job as usual.
The movie fell flat mostly though, along with the weak jokes. It was a very serious threat and everyone was acting like it was summer camp. Zeus was embarrassingly bad. I was hoping for a teamup with Hercules, now that would have been epic.
I'd rate it 5/10, but only because the final battle was pretty good.
