Here is what I'm thinking about the surprise over this being a dud....

Over the years, I've noticed that many movies with the topics of Hollywood in the story are oftentimes overhyped, and most often by those in the entertainment industry.

And it seems like this might be the case with Babylon - it seems like those that are most surprised by this doing poorly are those in the entertainment world.

It has people in it that I will watch it in rental for. Phoebe Tonkin,Eric Roberts,Margot Robbie. It isn't a spend $20 at a theater for though movie.

I didn't know Eric Roberts was in it. Hope it is a career booster for him. I can't remember who it was that hoped Tarantino would give him a plum role that would re-ignite his career (though, I know he appears in many, many flicks).

The movie is 90% shock value and political correctness. There are only a handful jokes, the story is paper thin, no part of the movie looks or sounds like it could be taking place in the 1920s.

No one in the film is likable. It's a film about disgusting, spoiled, entitled, narcissistic, sociopathic, immoral, immature bottom feeders who are at the top of the totem pole. Films about Hollywood will often suffer because none of the characters are likable nor relatable.
