So confused!!!

Ok... I'm confused! Who are these characters? Dominic Blythe? Who? What? Never heard of him! And if this is supposed to be somewhat of a prequel to the Anne of Green Gable series, why didn't we hear about these characters in the older movies? Is Dominic supposed to be one of Anne and Gilbert's kids? And if so, that's not the name of any of their boys from the books.

And why are they screwing with this series yet again? Why can't they just stick close to the books like the first 2 movies did? I mean, they did take some liberties with the books for the first 2 movies, but they were necessary liberties in order to fit in with the time constraints. I didn't mind the 3rd movie at first, simply because I had never read the Anne of Green Gable series, but once I read the books, it really did irk me that the writers and producers went off on their own tangent and created a whole new Anne story, and now they're doing it again!!!!!!!!

I would love more than anything to see movies made of "Anne's House of Dreams", "Anne of Ingleside", "Rainbow Valley" and "Rilla of Ingleside," as long as the movies could remain true enough to the books. "Rainbow Valley" and "Rilla of Ingleside" were my favorite books of the entire series, after "Anne of Green Gables" of course, and I think that it would be very nice to see Anne and Gilbert in the future after they've gotten married (granted we'll chuck what happened in the 3rd movie), moved away from Avonlea, bought their first house, had their kids, then them moving into the bigger house and having more kids and then seeing the lives of their children and what happened to them and their kids during WWI.

"Rilla of Ingleside" was a book that broke my heart, and is one of the very few books that has ever made me cry while reading, and I think that a movie, if done right, would be awesome to see of it, as well as the other books (provided we forget all about the 3rd Anne movie). So yea... I'll watch this catastrophe just to see what the heck they do with it, but I doubt very much that I'll like it!

dominic was the name of the child that anne saved and took home with her in the 3rd movie.

Ah yes, I forgot all about him! Oops!

"Rilla" is my favourite in the series as well, but they royally screwed the whole timeline in 'The Continuing Story'. I couldn't even sit through that tripe. The second film was reasonable, but still a bit unsatisfactory.

I hope one day to acquire the rights and do it all over again. Properly. Or at least that someone else who understands the series will be able to if I'm not capable.

I couldn't agree more. I'm a major Anne Fan - I've read all 8 books 5+ times. Now when I watch the movies again I never even watch the 3rd one. It just disgusts me how much they strayed from the books. There was so much in those last books they could have made 3 or 4 movies out of it all - Remember the woman married to the wrong crazy husband, or the captain, or the time living in the old ladies rental house, or Lavender's story, or Royal? Now I see a 4th movie in the works and this looks even worse than that last monstrosity. I wish someone would get ahold of this and do it completely right, beginning to end. Those of us who "know" Anne want to see her come to life on the screen, not some warped twisted version that only bears her name!

Hear, hear, my thoughts exactly!

I totally agree!

I have to respectfully disagree. I read the books as did most fans. I didn't find the material after the 3rd book to be all that compelling or worthy of being in a film. The books are great don't get me wrong, but I don't see that they would work in film format. Therefore, I don't begrudge Kevin Sullivan for making the story more dramatic. I enjoyed the thrid film and hopefully will enjoy this one as well.

While I am not crazy about Follows not playing Anne, i'm ok with the fact that they are getting a older actress to play a older version of Anne. I wouldn't want Follows to play a older version of Anne. I want to remember Follows' version of Anne, just as she is.

Dominic was the name of the boy the Anne and Gilbert adopted in the third movie, but I believe it was also the middle name of one of her children in the books who died in WWI.

reply

Nope, his name was Walter Cuthbert Blythe (in the book).
