A new way to screw up a series.

Wow, um, when I first saw they were making a new Anne movie, I was happy. I was excited! but then I made the mistake of reading the plot, I almost barfed."The continuing story" just screwed up the happy ending of Gil and Anne and threw out the substance of LMM's books. Now this prequel is going to screw up the story of past Anne. Wow, amazed. Sullivan, here's so advice, you should have stopped while you were ahead. At two.

P.S. Nevertheless I will see the movie. (I'm a sucker for Anne)

yea, I'm a huge fan of the original tv series. I grew up on them and I don't know what I feel about them making this new series. I guess we'll have to wait and see!

reply

I know that I will end up complaining but I'll watch anyways.

reply

Yah, I'm with you on this one. Some things are better left to our Anne-ish imaginations... I'll be watching it despite my objections to the meddling with the story. I was incensed enough that they had Anne and Gilbert marry under such sad circumstances in the 3rd movie... But I watched the movie just to see Anne and Gilbert together...however it just wasn't the same two lovebirds as before...I would watch the bit up to them getting married and then fast forward to where she finds him.... plus in the book: they were happy on their wedding day, they got married in the garden at Green Gables and Marilla was still alive. but I have to say, i sure didn't mind the way Jonathan Crombie looked in his uniform! ... like Henry Thomas in Legends of the Fall-but better!... Sadly, Megan Follows and Kevin Sullivan were at odds with each other for years after Anne 2. If not for that falling out, we might have had a proper Anne and Gilbert wedding with Colleen Dewhurst.

Rilla of Ingleside was my favorite of all the books because it made me laugh and cry and no other book has ever managed to do that to me. So it was supposed to be Anne and Gilbert's children experiencing the war, not them. I imagined poor Lucy Maud turning in her grave at the sight of the third Anne movie.

And now this fourth one... oye. I would like to boycott it but I'm too curious to see what they have done to our beloved Anne now... and it seems there's no Gilbert? ... I suppose he's passed away? If so, it's even more tragic!

I would like to know what Megan and Jonathan think of this new installment.

Seriously, I doubt either of them care too much since they both agreed to do the awful Anne 3. Perhaps they both feel it is a quaint idea.

Barf...

But like the original poster, I am a sucker for Anne and will probably end up watching this, raising my blood pressure and being even more angry at Kevin Sullivan.

reply

lissiend, I'm angry with Kevin Sullivan too!...he should have left it alone...he did enough damage with the 3rd one.

reply

Yes...Rilla of Ingleside was my favorite book as well...it would make a great movie...much better than the plot for this made up one.

reply

What I don't understand is that on Sullivan's web site, he wrote the story for "turn of the century." This is odd! I'll probably watch it, but he's really going down a bad path. The actors were aged enough to do a heartfelt story about their children, continuing to build their marriage, and maybe (gasp!) reflecting the books a little more!

reply

all i have to say is....wheres megan follows?!??! she will always be my anne!

reply

absolutely. Megan is Anne and any others are imposters. ...

and this 'half-brother' Anne suddenly has?.... after killing off Gilbert (wasn't one bad World War experience enough for him to not go back for more and get killed?????), and un-orphaning Canada's most beloved orphan, I was actually half guessing her half brother would turn out to be Gilbert!... I mean, after all that butchering of the story, why not?!!!

reply

Kevin Sullivan made a huge crap decision making this movie. What a preposterous plot!!! I read the summary in slack-jawed disbelief. I will not ever watch this movie. I refuse to accept that any of this happens or happened to Anne.

By ruining her present and screwing up her past, Sullivan shows he only cares about Anne as a commodity to make his one-horse studio some money. I am disgusted with him.
