We know the story

This is from the official site:

"Have you ever wondered who Anne’s mother and father were? What happened to them? Did she have any brothers or sisters? The mystery will unfold when Anne finds a secret letter in the floorboards of Green Gables almost 50 years after she arrived on Prince Edward Island and changed the Cuthbert’s lives forever."

If you read the books, then you know who Anne's parents were. And she knows too, as she went back to where ever she was born and talked to the neighbors. I believe she was given a pile of letters between her parents from whoever was living in the home. She knew quite a bit for being orphaned so young.

Her parents were Walter and Bertha Shirley. Anne named two of her own children after them. They were very young and in love. They died when Anne was a baby. She bounced around from children's home to various families and back including "bringing up two sets of Hammond twins" until she ended up at a children's home in Nova Scotia and the was mistakenly brought to the Cuthberts. She didn't have any brothers or sisters.

What do we need a movie for?

These are my thoughts exactly, but after the (what I thought was) disastrous 3rd movie, I'm just not surprised anymore.

Like the 3rd movie, I'll probably see this once and then never again.

I didn't even watch the third movie all the way through. I just couldn't finish it. It was rather painful.

reply

I completely agree! I do not understand why Sullivan is approaching Anne this way.

reply

agreed... haven't they done enough with that wretched third movie?

i only watched parts of it while my folks watched it.... it was too painful
instead, i went and reread rainbow valley and rilla of ingleside, because those were good books... why not make a movie out of those?
they have so many great stories... why not capitalize on that? or do they no own the rights so they have to do stupid stories?

so depressing...

reply

i wonder what her parents died of

Long story short: Sullivan pissed Montgomery's heirs off so badly that they won't let him use anything from the books that aren't fully public domain yet.

My thoughts too except I was thinking more along the lines of "we [Anne Fans] know the story inside and out, so why are you trying to fool us a 4th time?" I'm not thrilled with the idea of another one of hollywoods twisting - and ruining I might add - another great story.
