Anne and Gilbert? I'm looking forward to watching this, although I am highly skeptical. NO ONE CAN EVER DO ANNE JUSTICE LIKE THE BEAUTIFUL AND TALENTED MEGAN FOLLOWS DID. She is like the Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter...true fans will feel weird if they had to have a new actor to portray Harry.
And where is the tall, dark, and Handsome Jonathan Crombie to play my favourite character Gilbert Blythe??? The first 2 Anne films were classic, and it's not everyday that you can get such a perfect cast as Megan, Jon, Schuyler Grant, Colleen Dewhurst, etc. It is not just the story and characters, but also the right actors.
I'm still giving this new movie a chance, but I can't help but wonder if it's all for $$$.
I fully get why Jonathan Crombie is not in it since Gil has been killed in WWII but there is no reason for Megan Follows not to play Anne again. Barbara Hershey is okay but she is no Megan. If it was because of an age problem, that's just really stupid. Listen, if they can make Robin Williams look like a 60 yr old women, they can make Megan Follows look older than she is. She's only like what? 40 maybe 43? I mean come on everyone!!
Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVED the third one. I wasn't a big fan of it at first but now I own it on DVD and I watch it more than I do the 2nd one which is my favorite one out of all of them. The Sequel is my all time favorite and The Continuing Story is right up there. I'm going to give this one a chance lol though I'm sure it'll be forever before I see it because I'm not in Canada.
Anyway, I'm not dissing this new movie though I'm not a big fan of Hershey. So, I'm going to give it a chance. Maybe I'll grow to like it maybe I won't. I guess it all depends so come fall, bring it on PBS!!!
The reason for Megan and Jonathan not being in it should be that they were told what the intended story was to be and that they both told Kevin Sullivan that it was awful, that they would have nothing to do with the butchering of such a wonderful story. That is my hope.
It's bad enough that Anne 3 was a *TOTAL* departure from the books except for the very brief mention of going to live in Glen St. Mary.
I agree with your sentiments. Have you seen the Netflix version of AOGG, I have heard pros and cons. I like the 3rd movie as well, and wish there had been a sequel, it kinda left viewers hanging. I know many Anne fans are not fond of this film with McClaine and Hershey either. But I am willing to give it a chance. I saw the Anne films with Martin Sheen, they were OK. Has anyone seen the silent version from 1917, or the 30's series with actress Anne Shirley? I hope too someday. I really wish there was a remake of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.
I agree! I can't believe that after everything that happened in "Continuing Story" that they would have Gilbert DIE in WWII. HELLO!? Wasn't the whole idea of "CS" to reuinte Anne and Gil, despite the war and bring Gil home and safe, leaving veiwers happy that the 2 were still togther and alive? And these plots are straying way too far from the books, it saddens the heart. I am a huge fan of the first 2 movies, esp the cast. But I see a lot of the characters are missing. But I see they got Rachel Lynde back even though she suffered a stroke in the "Road to Avonlea" series. I understand that the actors that played Marilla and Matthew have died, as well as their characters on screen, but where is Diana and other notable Avonlea characters!?
I was really disappointed in the 3rd movie. It was too corny, none of the new characters fit well (stereotypes and bad acting) and I feel that Megan Fellow's "Anne" was different, so I would love for her to come back and do some justice and fix the reputation that she left viewers with a few years ago.
I'm glad the movie is at Green Gables! As much as I love Europe and that time period, I did not feel it was the place or setting for Anne and Gil in "CS". I guess what I'm most upset about is the casting (no Megan and Jonathan!!!!!) and the plot seems a bit iffy. I want some good old fashion Anne Shirley-Blythe and Avonlea shenanigans, not some strange old women discovering some conspiracy/ huge secret and goes looking for her parents that supposedly died and orphaned her but are really alive!!! WTF!? They better do this tastefully and believable.
PLUS, did I mention that I'm very mad that Gil is dead!?
If they offered the original cast the parts and they turned it down because the plot (and the 3rd movie) were so far fetched from the original spirit that is Anne and Avonlea, then shouldn't Kevin Sullivan take note? I want some answers from the directors and writers. What on Earth would prompt them to do such a thing to something that we so perfect!
