Poor House scenes right out of Jane Eyre

Anyone else notice the similarities?

Cutting off her hair because it's sinful. Making her stand on the stool all day long. The old man as a substitute Helen Burns. I was just waiting to find out Gilbert had a first wife locked away in an attic somewhere but instead the poor guy got sent to war AGAIN and this time got killed.

I made it to the end of this movie, but afterwards I wish I had watched my dvd of Jane Eyre instead. 1000 times better than this.

YES!!! That's EXACTLY what I said out loud today watching this: Jane Eyre! :D

I had exactly the same thought as you! Plus several bits of the dialogue stolen from the Anne books, when this is meant to precede the books. A very bad movie overall, and the whole storyline about the mill and the industrial espionage was just stupid and confusing!
