Why the negativity? I'm actually curious

Two out of the three films on this movie turned out awesome. The last one was a dud though. So who knows, this movie can be a gem as well. I always wondered what Anne Shirley life was before she went to Green Gables. I say give it a chance.

Yes. I totally agree with you.

I Agree as well, I don't get it. As ridiculous as this sounds people change works of art all the time in order to make movies...Novels, Comic books whatever have you. I'm certainly NOT compairing "Anne of Green Gables" to "Spiderman," but what's so bad about changing a few things to make the story more interesting for a tv viewier? I personally can't find anything.

I enjoyed the third movie and i'm sure i'll enjoy this one as well.

reply

It's obviously for money...a mere 'fanfiction.' It has nothing to do with the books. Even the fans' beloved actors aren't there.

But yeah I'll still give it a chance. I won't love it though like the first 2 films. I liked the 3rd too although I saw it as if it were a stand-alone movie, since it lacked any spirit of Anne.

reply

This movie completely contradicts the books. In the fourth book,Anne of Windy Poplars, she visits the tombstones of her parents. She did not ever lie about her past. Both of her parents are definitely dead. Also, Gilbert dead? What the heck? Kevin Sullivan should leave this alone. The third one was bad enough, but actually contradicting the books is a travesty.

I agree; this film appears to be yet another complete diversion from the actual story. I enjoyed the first two films (even though they were not completely faithful to the books, although nonetheless very good in most parts, had a great cast and was overall enjoyable). But the third instalment was (unfortunately) completely fictional.

This new film may be enjoyable in its own right, but I see little need in trying to attribute it to the Anne of Green Gables series. I imagine that the only reason why they linked this upcoming production to the other films is because it will make this film more appealing. But from the stuff I have read so far on this, it seems to be like the third film – so ‘fanfiction’. Only this time we won’t have Megan Follows and/or Jonathan Crombie :(

That's just it. The two that were good were based on the actual books. In the third one, the Colleen Dewhurst who had played Marilla (who was a major part of the reason the first movies were so good) had passed away (although, I'm not sure why they didn't either re-cast that or just try to work around it), so they decided to basically completely deviate from the story of the books and make up their own from scratch. It sounds like they've continued that trend, and it didn't work out very well in the 3rd movie. We'll see, though.

reply

Because in my opinion...you just don't mess with a masterpiece! The Anne books don't need "improved!!" Its a travesty, plain and simple. It's too bad L.M. Montgomery's family cannot put a stop to it somehow. I am a very ardent Anne of Green Gables fan and movie three and four are just plain fightin' grounds!

reply

There is a book about her life before Green Gables,it came out recently and even Sullivan couldn't get that story right.

reply

Why the negativity? Well, because I've just watched this film and it's a piece of crap. And I'm not just talking about the way Sullivan has basically spit on Maud Montgomery's legacy. It's simply not a good script---there's no decent pay-off to the whole story. The final quarter of the film is riddled with plot holes and inconsistencies and in the end made no sense.

reply

The first two movies changed the story. Actually they changed major plot points in the story and mushed many story-lines together and changed characters around etc. But I have yet to meet a single fan of the books who didn't love them.

What this movie has done however.. well I can't really express my opinion without resorting to language that I would rather not use here, so I'll just stay quiet.

reply

True, there were parts of the first two movies that were mushed and some of the plot points changed (Avonlea especially) but there was still that essence of LM Montgomery's series there. However, the 3rd and 4th movies....

I am looking at the movie now, it's an OK film. But I like the first three the best.
