Still no director's Oscar for you. You're competing against, not one, but two empowered woman directors. You've got no chance.

Haven't seen Mank yet, but Fincher's director nominations (2) are for his worst movies, so I have no high hopes for this one either. Where was the academy when Se7en, Fight Club and Zodiac were in the cinema?

Fincher now has 3 nominations.

I agree that Benjamin Button and Mank are probably in his bottom 5.
However, I firmly believe The Social Network is in his top 5.

I would say Social Network is number one. Recently rewatched it for the first time in a few years, and it's so good. I'm moving into my top ten all time.
