My thoughts: good but not great
I just finished watching Mank on Netflix. Directed by David Fincher, Mank is about Herman J. Mankiewicz, the screenwriter of Citizen Kane. Gary Oldman does a great job playing Mankiewicz, but the film itself is only somewhat interesting and not nearly as engaging as it should be. The black and white cinematography is beautiful and effective and there are some nice moments in the film, but I was left somewhat unfulfilled and not completely satisfied. For me, this is Fincher's 9th best film. It wouldn't make my top 10 of 2020, but would be in my top 15 of the year. Mank is definitely worth watching and a good film, but not a great one. My rating is an 8/10.
