Shame Roger Ebert isnt around to see it.

'Citizen Kane' was his favourite film, he loved Gary Oldman ("marvelous actor", "one of the great actors"), and he heaped praise on just about everything Fincher did ('Seven', 'Zodiac', 'Social Network' and 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' all got 4/4 ratings, IIRC).

With these ingredients, 'Mank' seems made for Ebert. He also lobbied for years for Oldman to get Oscar attention (notably on 'The Joan Rivers Show' in '86), but died a few years before Oldy finally got the statue. 😒 Looks like Gary will be nominated again, along with Seyfried.

I miss that guys reviews. The way he broke down a movie and was great at what he did.

Small correction: Dragon Tattoo received 3.5 stars. Still a strong endorsement. Also Ebert did recommend RKO 281, which has a similar subject matter, on his show for what it's worth.

Ha, I thought about him too watching this. His DVD commentary for Citizen Kane is legendary among cinephiles. A must listen.

Damn, that's a shame.

Who cares about that old fart anymore.

People over twelve, who remember him.
