Mom telling random people that Sam popped his cherry!!

Glad her role was cut down in DOTM, she's so annoying and unrealistic!! I mean who would say that!?

I think a lot of people hate the parents in these movies for the same reason a lot of people just LOVE them; namely, they're authentic.

If you've ever had any kind of parenting whatsoever, surely you'll remember that they tend to say the worst, most embarrassing stuff ALL THE TIME.

The fact that people claim to hate them so much just goes to show what a wonderful job the writers and actors have done with those characters.

:)

You're kidding, right? I mean... that was sarcasm... right?

This was yet just another example of Bay crapping out more forced humor and his trademark "wacky" characters to satisfy the A.D.D. generation. Even the small amount of people I know who actually liked this film thought that the parents - particularly the mom - were completely asinine and unfunny.

These were NOT "authentic" parental types. I have never seen a mom act like Judy Witwicky in my life. Sure, parents say/do things that embarrass their kids, but she was too damn much. She knowingly and willingly takes illegal drugs in front of her son (and the people he'll most likely be living with for the next four years) in broad daylight on a crowded college campus! You really think that's a "wonderful job" the writers did making her "authentic"?!?

If that's the way your mom acts, I feel so sorry for you.

Again, please tell me you're joking.

Oh, don't play coy with me...YOU know me well enough to know I'm not kidding.

Regardless of your friends' opinions, TONS of parents watched these movies with their kids and TONS of them had a BLAST. The box office numbers really speak for themselves. These movies appeal to a HUGE audience, and part of that is the diversity of the cast offering the audience archetypal touchstones to recognize and/or identify with, not to mention the breadth of the humor and it's wide-reaching appeal. It gets BIG laughs from a FAR wider audience than this "A.D.D. Generation" you ridicule in your reply. As you've heard, I've watched these movies with many, many packed theater crowds and people were practically rolling in the aisles laughing along with the jokes, parents audibly included as well. Some of the BIGGEST laughs being for the parents' deliveries, particularly Judy's, btw.

And I happen to KNOW they're authentic representations of parental types, because I have several pals with dad's just like Ron and my OWN mother is practically Judy Witwicky incarnate. She may not do recreational drugs (not that I haven't smoked out with plenty of parents, yes, even at colleges), but she's certainly massively and unthinkingly embarrassing from time to time. Okay, frequently.

But back to Judy for a second, let's also not forget that we're talking about a menopausal old woman finishing her brownie and goofing around on the quad, it's not like she sat down at Dean's desk and started bangin' speedballs, ffs.

I'm sorry, but you'd have to be a moron for this sort of humor to appeal to you. And - again I'm sorry for basically insulting America as a whole here - if you've experienced several packed theatres where everybody laughed their asses off to this movie I sincerely fear for the state of America.

I'd fear MORE for a world where people can't just LAUGH at something so obviously silly and goofy and over-the-top and move along.

And for a world where simply relaxing and enjoying yourself and appreciating humor for what it is has you labeled a "moron."

Whether or not it's to your own, personal tastes, we're STILL talking about comedic elements in a fun, escapist movie.

Get over yourself and live a little.
