Kinda weird ...
I used to be all into the conspiracy theories and all that kinda stuff and I'm just watching this movie now and there is a ton of weird stuff in it with symbolism.. the climbing the ladder...etc I'm not saying this movie killed Heath Ledger as a sacrafice to Lucifer or some crap but it is weird lol. Plus even if any of that were true they always say its Hollywood that is part of the "illuminati" and Gilliam isn't a Hollywood director like really at all.. He probably just has read a lot about the esoteric/occult and religion...etccc.
