Lemon meringue pie
What a stupid metaphor/illustration to use to try and sway the jury! All I could think about when he was explaining that was, "huh?"

shareRight there with you. When the prosecutor said "By the way, Ford baked that lemon meringue pie." - my wife and I looked at each other and thought he sounded like an idiot.

It's another example of a defense attorney talking down to a jury.
Then again, it also set the stage for the unconventional approach Kearns took to the case (i.e. Charles Dickens arranging words to create something new).

He's a lover, not a fighter. But he's also a fighter - so don't get any ideas.
it didn't set the stage, because the Dickens defense came prior.
shareActually it was a pretty clever analogy...and one which would have been VERY effective with a middle America jury before we became jaded by the internet and modern media. Please folks...pay attention to the era of the movies you watch...you'll enjoy them more!
shareBob isn't claiming that he invented the pie (or Ford). He invented the occasional cherry on top.

strung on hooks like pigs to slaughter heads will roll and throats will be slit
If yu are a fan of the American Pie series, you will know what that lawyer did with his mom's pie. And lemon custard can make anything shrivel.

You are obviously not old enough to remember when the Ford Motor Company owned Philco, and Philco manufactured Tv sets and other home appliances, INCLUDING RANGES. The lawyer clearly meant the pie was baked with a Ford appliance.
The "stupid metaphor/illustration" the Ford lawyer used, should have been obvious to anyone smart enough to use Google and learn if FoMoCo ever had an interest in a company that made appliances. GM had Frigidare....Ford had Philco.
HUH HUH HUH?
I think some people are confused by the metaphor. By the time the defense attorney said "Ford baked the pie", he meant the pie as in the intermittent windshield wiper, not the actual pie made by his mom.
The way he delivered it made the line sound odd as if he's saying her mom's pie was made by Ford. He should have said "Ford baked THIS lemon meringue pie".
The attorney clearly meant that Henry Ford's wife cooked lemon maringue pies and that by extension, the Ford Motor Company baked those pies. I can't believe you guys missed that.
