Karma is a bitch.
It's a beautiful thing to see Ford and the other car companies get exposed for what they did to that man.
shareIt's a beautiful thing to see Ford and the other car companies get exposed for what they did to that man.
shareIt's amazing how people have these extremely short-sided views of corporations. Ford GM and Chrysler employ so many American workers. They give out the best pension plans in the auto industry (Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi don't have retirement plans). They give more philanthropically than any other company in the industry, and yet we crap on them every chance we get over their business relationship with one man.
Ford Chrysler and GM are having a tough decade. We caby buying foreign cars. It's 2008 people, the quality of the American car is on par if not better than anything made in foreign companies. Support American automakers.
if you actually think that american cars are on par with or better than any foreign car company (especially japanese) you're completely delusional.
shareMy Musang GT has 139k miles on it and has the lifespan of any Civic or accordi. My Dad's Town Car has 141k miles he bought new and still has the original transmission
As far as fuel economy, my mom gets 30+ mpg in her 2008 Focus...... Last I checked, Civics get about that.
People! Support the American automakers!!!! We've taken them for granted but wait and see what hapens to our country if they dissappear.
I know this is an old post but just saw this. To say that a car making it to 141K miles is some great achievement is silly. I have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner. It is going strong and just getting broken in with over 200K miles on it. I used to buy only American and put up with the problems as they started to approach 100K miles but when our Oldsmobile Silhouette transmission had to be replaced at 38K miles, right after the warranty expired, I said nevermore. What is the point of being proud of American made if it is just crap.
share@shane5421-
Spoken like someone who has not owned an american car in 15 years (if ever).
My brother who just about used to think that Honda/Acura came out of Gods ass and hand delivered by Jesus himself told me when he bought is Acura two years ago that it would be his last. Due to greatly reduced quality, competitors cheaper price and uninspired/unoriginal lack luster styling Honda is moving only on their own momentum.
You clearly haven't owned an American made car in quite some time. Decades perhaps.

Actually Honda and Toyota do have pension plans, and GM and Ford have greatly reduced their plans. GM announced last month major cuts to retires.
The Japanese also employ American workers as well. Not just the big 3 American makers. Last year Honda employed more American auto works than Chrysler, and both Honda and Toyota manufactured more cars in the U.S. than they did overseas. Yet Ford made more cars in Canada and Mexico than they did in the U.S.
I Do agree with you that their product is equal to anything Japan makes. Unfortunately, the Japanese have instilled in every young persons brain through unbelievable clever marketing that that is not they case. Only in Japan could a french car company (Renault) convince Americans that they are a Japanese company (Nissan). French auto maker Renault bought Nissan about 15 years ago. The company is managed in France, product is designed in France, however, cars are built in Japan so dumb ass Americas think they are a Japanese company. Kind of like when Mercury tried making their cars sound more European by building a car in Germany and calling it a Merkur... the German word for... wait for it... Mercury.
Ford & GM's reduced pension plan is because they're not doing well as companies.
It's kinda like running a race with ankle weights on. No matter how hard you try and train and how in shape you are, you're at a disadvantage. Ford GM and Chrysler just need to get out ahead of the foreign automakers and make not just an equivelant product but a significantly better one. They can and they will. They survived the great Depression and the 1970's.
henry ford was also a nazi sympathizer, given an award by adolf hitler and an anti-semite. payback IS a bitch!
shareHenry Ford converted his plants to make Tanks, Airplanes, and other weapons for the US Military sold to the government on credit at 0% interest. These were used to fight the Japanese and the Nazi's during WWII.
What the car companies did in this movie is wrong. PERIOD! Karma is a bitch and I hope they all go out of business. If American cars are so great why did the US government for Asian car makers to share their plans on how they make their cars so fuel efficient with the idiot car makers over at Ford and GM ? Yes that did happen.
You don't steal from people we tell our kids this all the time. You can't justify what they did because they support American workers. BS. I will never buy a ford or GM because of this movie and more importantly because their garbage. I will say that they have been making improvements over the years, but this movie doesn't help their image that's for sure.
Short viewed? Honda should burn to the ground for what they did. Nothing gives the big company the right to belittle a common man just because he has less money or power. No amount of money to their employees or to the army will justify what they did.

Uhh... this discussion is about Ford Motor Company jack ass
share[deleted]
And for the record this discussion is NOT about Ford. It's about how if you screw with someone, karma will come back and bit you in the ass. Or in your case cut off your ugly head and stick it on a flag pole

Yeah, so I'm guessing you own a car that wasn't made by a corporation. I love how people hate "big" business... without large "evil" corporations many Americans would be jobless. But whatever, some people need something to lay blame on.... ignorance is bliss.
shareSo you are just completely ignoring the fact that this scandal did happen. And because we need these big companies, they can do whatever the hell they want because people always need stuff like cars. LOL and you talk about ignorance

If the WORST thing a company has done it taken one guy's idea for an intermittent windshield wiper (and since has owned up to their mistake due to a court mandate) then they've got a long way to go to measure up to Corporate sharks like InBev and Honda, Toyota, etc.
shareWhat has Honda, Toyota ever done that's worst than completely screwing a hard working man over and taking his creation just because Ford doesn't feel like paying him for his creation? Other than the fact the companies you named aren't american companies? Or is that all you have against them?

NuggetsVSCavs, you ask "What has Honda, Toyota ever done that's worst than completely screwing a hard working man over and taking his creation?". What about taking people's lives?
Toyota to Pay $1.2B for Hiding Deadly ‘Unintended Acceleration’
http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/toyota-pay-12b-hiding-deadly-unintended-acceleration/story?id=22972214
Also, I wish people would understand how much of a joke Honda's current advertising is. They advertise that they are helpful, but how much do they spend helping compared to how much they spend advertising that they help? I am not impressed but I am sure many people are.
I really have a significant amount for empathy for inventors that have their ideas stolen (I elaborate in another thread on this board on the subject), but I think what Ford did (or what they didn't do) with regard to the Pinto is/was even worse. However, I'm sure that the decision makers at Ford for both stealing ideas and letting people die because it cost less than to fix the problem didn't suffer much at all. Unless you believe in Karma. I agree that it is a shame that often many have to suffer for the sins of a few just like it is a shame that often many have to sacrifice for the few.
shareDidn't suffer much at all? Imagine if you had the idea of a life time, your best idea ever. And a big company steals your idea and refuse to give you credit for it because they can get away with it by throwing cash around. If that had been your idea you'd have a very different view of Ford. How you can be so blind to this particular injustice and even try to justify it is beyond me.

Hey Kevin.
I think he meant that the decision makers didn't suffer much at all; he wasn't referring to Kearns. Maybe parentheses would have helped?

I will only buy Japanese, German, or Swedish. I'm an American and the American brands suck balls. And yeah, I've driven boat-loads of them. I've driven Chryslers, Lincolns, Fords, and GMs...they all suck. You can almost feel the shoddy-ness under your legs as you drive them. They break down so often that the only plus with these brands are that the parts are cheap as hell. That's probably the problem, that the parts used for American cars are so damn cheap. Yeah, it'll cost me twice as much to fix a BMW, but at least it drives and feels like a solid car.

psharma - Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I have to disagree with you 100%. I have owned nothing but GM products for the past 22 years and couldn't be more pleased.
Aside from regularly scheduled maintenance, the only time we've made a major repair was last month on our daughter's '93 Chevy Silverado ext. cab pick-up that has 139K miles. It needed a new radiator. Not bad for a 15 year old vehicle with that mileage - which we have owned since it was new. We also currently have three other Chevys that range from 3 years old to 12 years old and have never had problems with them other than regular maintenance and wear items (tires, batteries, filters, etc.).
From the mid 1970's - late 1980's I would agree that American vehicles were crap. However, anything we've owned since then has been equal if not better than similar foreign vehicles. I base this upon other family members/friends who have owned foreign cars and the problems they have encountered with them.
Regardless of where they are assembled (US, Canada, Mexico) I would rather see my money go to US owned companies rather than foreign owned companies.
I am looking forward to seeing this film.
Maybe if the big three car makers had kept up with their japanese competition, they would have produced a hybrid vehicle. Maybe then they wouldn't be asking for their own bail-out from Washington D.C. I have a Honda Civic Hybrid and will NEVER go back to GM until they can offer 40+ mpg.

General Motors produces more vehicles that get over 30 mpg than ANY other company. Check your facts.
The Ford Motor Company produces more models with 5 star crash ratings than any other company.
You can look these statistics up, they're fact.
For anyone American on this board, the only rational reason you have for not at least giving the MODERN era of the Big Three a chance is because of hearsay and a bad product they used to produce in the 1970's and 1980's. I dont want to slam Japanese and European auto makers... I just want people to give American auto makers a chance. If you're looking for a new car, just stop by and spend a half hour at your local Ford, GM, and Chrysler dealership. I hope some of you see that the quality is there, the local support just isn't. Give them a chance to win you back with their 2009/2010 lineup.
If your post is meant to be a joke then I understand. Chemical companies employ hundreds of thousands of people, their products kill people and cause cancer...so are these companies somehow great in your opinion?
People in the US buy Japanese cars because the quality of construction as do people in the rest of the world, or are you saying the whole world is against the US? Oh and by the way, most of the low to midrange Japanese cars sold in US are put together there.
Ok. If I steal $1 million from you and donate $10,000 to charity, does that make it alright?
nobody lives forever...
So what? We're supposed to give them a free pass to steal?
Hitler promoted a great after school youth program stressing physical fitness and was also instrumental in pushing the creation of the Volkswagon Beetle. He was also a vegetarian. Should he get a pass too?
I despise those fruity, robe-wearing nutjobs as much as the next rational individual, and so I haven't read any of their culty weirdness, but I think you'll find that your understanding of karma is fundamentally flawed.
Anyway, to me the decline of American motorcar manufacturers is another leaf in the book 'How Trade Unionism Destroys Industry'. It's a big book. I'm European, and we all drive around in high-revving 4-cylinder blister-shaped cars. And not because we want to, but because we have a lot of simpletons living here who keep electing socialists who like to tax and spend like it's going out of style. So we can't afford a decent car. So we have to make do with these little *beep* toy cars. Why do you think Europeans hate everyone and themselves? Why do you think Europeans are such intolerable dickheads? It's because we have terrible cars.
