How is this not directed by Wes Anderson?

When I first heard of this movie a few weeks ago, I decided that it must be directed by Wes Anderson... instead, it's some other guy, who has directed... nothing. So, time will tell on this one. I hope it's good. Someone told me that the book was.

Okay, seriously, reading the book, I kept picturing this adapted by Wes Anderson! I know he is a bit divisive and not loved by all, but this is a story about quirky people with a slightly odd hobby on a self-indulgent, completely obsessive, profoundly lonely year long quest to find birds. How is the director of The Life Aquatic not involved, haha? I'm excited for the movie and have high hopes, but would barely be able to contain myself if Anderson were directing!

It seems more of a Christopher Guest type film to me.

You won't be saved.

I can see Guest at the helm and from what I have heard about the film, that's probably closer to the actual tone the film took. But to me Guest almost mocks his characters; the author of "The Big Year" writes about birding, the contest, and its participants with a sort of reverence that to me didn't really sound like Guest.

Actually he has directed a big Box Office hit, "The Devil Wears Prada". That's something!!

But seriously, yes, you're right, Anderson would be the only guy on planet that would make this completely indifferent plot (for a movie) to something at least interesting.
