The trailer said nothing about them being avid bird watchers!

The trailer was confusing. I have no idea what it's about...

It was not a very good trailer. Random voice-over and song use, the story was defined poorly, and it seemed to just focus on the falling down/slapstick gags.

"Don't worry. We can walk to the curb from here."

They did have several shots of binoculars, talk about fallout, and references to doing 'a big year' which is a birding event, but if you weren't a birder, I think you might miss the references. I also found it odd that the three are treated as buddies -- IIRC, in the book and reality they only crossed paths for most of the year while Levantin and Miller did briefly team up at one point, it was to pool resources with the hope of obliterating Kimito. The entire book is about obsessive, isolationist competition in which the three spent and charged thousands in order to outdo each other. Turning it into a buddy comedy basically defeats the entire point of the book and a Big Year.

The movie looks meh but I understood the trailer fine. And it did mention the bird watching: I mean, come on, bird fallout anyone?

I call movies that are considered 'bad' hated movies.

This trailer was confusing as hell. I've seen Steve talk about this movie and what it would be in a bunch of interviews, which is basically in line with the IMDb premise explanation, but that trailer made this look like a buddy Bucket List adventure movie.

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

Lol I thought the trailer made it look like they were searching for a alien. Or Alien like creature. I had no idea they were looking for birds.
