The movie comes out next Friday, and yet I see no TV spots. You figured with a movie studio like Fox and when you get actors like Steve Martin, Owen Wilson and Jack Black together, they'd want to promote it in someway. Yet, here we are with nothing. Footloose and the Thing get decent amounts of TV spots but Big Year gets nothing? What's taking Fox so long?

shareHere's what happened: some dunderhead exec bought the book rights, they realized it would make a crap film, shelled out the bucks for the three stars in the hopes they may improv their way to a good movie. Judging from a couple clips on talk shows the last few days, this flick is horrid. Fox is realizing its a corpse and is limiting the losses where the can on the advertising.
"If I had ya where I wanted ya, they'd be pumpin your ass full of formaldehyde!"
I've seen some TV spots at really bizarre times (like 5 AM), but I'm guessing the obvious--Fox has no idea how to market this film because of the subject matter's fairly limited appeal.
