I plan to see this regardless

It's interesting that a Steve Martin and Jack Black comedy which might be high end and funny just didn't draw patrons and box office mojo's new summary guy declares it dead and the careers of the stars along with it. (The same guy refers to The Thing (2011) as a remake when it is clearly a prequel, so he doesn't feel the need to research the content of the films let alone whether they are good.) And yet the next generic piece of crap will get raves for opening big with a large cast. The director has a good track record.

What the hell. Bird watching is a weird enough random subject that it might actually make for quirky characters and good comedy.

It's not as goofy as the previews make it look (and the star trio would lead you to believe). You called it on good (if subtle) comedy and quirky characters.

My mother was an avid birder. I will see this in her memory and suspect I will smile along the way.

Yeah, it's not exactly a comedy. More like a light drama with a little comedy mixed in. I thought it was enjoyable, nothing epic but good. I'm guessing it was just marketed to the wrong crowd.

Steve Martin got me in the seats because I'm not really a fan of Jack Black. The surprising thing is that if Jack Black would tone it down and be like this all the time, I WOULD be a fan of his. Both were very good in this film.
