Poor rating from IMDB'ers?

I'm not quite sure why this movie gets such a poor rating here on imdb.com? It's a good movie - it's funny, quirky and well-structured. It has a great cast and great scenery......so what's the problem? My guess is that most imdb'ers just don't get a movie about bird-watching? It's only THE most popular outdoor activity in this country, even bigger than fishing. And it's healthy, educational and a communal sporting activity. Some here posted that it's an expensive activity? Not so much........all you need is the ability to walk, the gas to drive to a good watching area and a reasonably good pair of bino's, oh, and maybe some warm clothes! Rent the DVD and see if I'm not right about this film, you may be pleasantly surprised?

I don't understand why some people give this a "1" and about 20% gives it a "10". This movie won't go down in history as one of the greatest movies ever. And it's definitely not the worst movie ever. My only explanation is that people who voted "1" thought "damn! this ain't no funny jack black owen wilson film!" and people who voted 10 were trying to boost the rating.

i expected a higher score when i arrived at the page. its not amazing but iv seen a lot worse get higher

6 isn't a bad score! I'd rate it a 7. But that 7 is for myself and people who know me. I wouldn't expect it to hold any bearing in the anonymity of the internet, just as I wouldn't expect anybody to take these overall IMDb user ratings as a Gold standard!

Nice, ultimately feel-good film. And the subtle humour was a breath of fresh air. Not better generally than the constant, in-your-face, crude slapstick (when it's done well, I mean), but not worse. Just a refreshing change in scenery

You can't honestly take "1" ratings seriously, surely? Whether accidental, or just through unjustified hatred or anger, a rating of 1 is almost never a fair score. I was pleased to see the 6, in this day and age

Yeah, I've seen worse movies get a lot better rating.

IMDB ratings are really poor though, it's usually either all or nothing if you look at what people vote.

Hi

I haven't rated this one yet, but I can understand the low rating here. I was expecting a funny comedy and it didn't even make me smile... Which is weird, considering it had Jack Black, Owen Wilson and Steve Martin... Maybe people were expecting some laughs and it didn't quite deliver. Not to say it was an awful movie, perhaps we were expecting a different kind of movie. In my case it had nothing to do with the plot involving bird-watching. I just found it dull from beginning to end...
