What were they thinking?

I saw this on a plane and had to pull the ear buds out. It was sappy,
clichéd, and rudderless. The only good parts were the birds. Between
the father conflicts, the father remorse, the give it up for it all
businessman who is having a life metamorphosis, the fear of approaching
a girl and the stereotypical Owen Wilson performance. I have noticed
after a a fairly successful career actors will start to impersonate
themselves see Pacino, DeNiro, Ferrell, etc.

Yes, it is a bit sappy and cliched; but not everything can be sophisticated and high-minded. I didn't come away from this one transformed as a human being, but I've seen far bigger wastes of time with much larger budgets. At least it wasn't unoriginal.

I can't say that I share the same passion as the characters portrayed in this film for "birding", but they conveyed their passion in such a way that I was able to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for it; which for me was sufficiently rewarding. There was substance to the people and their stories; and no matter the subject isn't that the most fundamental aspect of any true form of art?
