I will get flak for this but this is better than the original 1933 version.

I actually have watched the original as a kid and as an adult. But frankly I like this more. It's scarier. I do admire the effects of the original as well as some of the performances except Una O Connor and some of the villagers who act very silly. That's kind of the problem with the original. Too much humor that takes away from the horror. An Invisible Man should be terrifying but when everyone acts really silly and over the top, not to mention the Invisible Man himself singing a nursery Rhyme, it just takes away from it being terrifying.

Now this was scary. A woman is forced into a relationship with a guy and then when she runs away from him, he fakes his own death and stalks her in a suit that grants him invisibility. That's very scary. Especially when he follows her to the house of her friend who has a young daughter. Not to mention him fooling everyone into thinking she's a lunatic who sent her sister an email saying she hates and wants her dead, hit her own friend's daughter, and killed her own sister so that she ends up in a mental institution. Not to mention the fact he raped her in the mental institution so she'd get pregnant. Though the ending is less freaky with the real Invisible Man getting killed by the main protagonist at the end.

I mean the original had a central character who was a lady too. So did it's sequel. Heck, they also made a movie years ago called the Invisible Woman.
