Was she tried twice?

For the same offence?

Sometime in between episodes 2 and 3?

Or have I missed something?

IIRC, she was tried in episode two but Sexby kidnapped the guy’s daughter (don’t know the character’s name, but is played by Tim McInnerny) and thus forced him to recant his charges. At the end of that episode McInnerny’s character got his own back and arrested Angelica. I wasn’t really paying attention to tonight’s episode but I think she had been thrown in prison and had been condemned for murder (don’t know whether this happened on/off screen?) and therefore had been sentenced to death.

Considering the state of the country at the time,
I don't think anyone was too bothered about the niceties of legality and justice.

As soon as her husband Thomas was out of the way, Jollife, (McInnery's character) would be able to have her hanged without fear of facing his wrath.

No they found a different reason to try and hang her.
