Anyone else feel Carl marrying his childhood best friend feels a little too "fairytale"?

I know it's a fantasy comedy film with a very unrealistic plot. But it's also one of the few children's animated movies that actually teaches children about life. I'm not just talking about the "married life" sequence, there are other examples, such as the scene where Carl hits the construction worker on the head with his cane. In animated movies, characters hit each other on the head with objects all the time, and nothing happens. This movie shows that it's actually a crime, and it can actually cause injury.

Many kids think when they grow up they're going to marry their best friend of the opposite sex, but in real life, that rarely happens. It would've felt more real and powerful if Carl married someone else, and shared his adventure plans with her.

I met my wife when we lived in the same neighborhood. She was 15, I was 17. We're still together 34 years later.

It doesn't seem that out of place to me.
