Once again, I wasn't impressed. Another "afterschool special" by Tyler Perry. Why waste time and money putting them in the theatres? They're barely good enough for cable. This is his worst one yet. I thought "Why Did I Get Married??" was bad.
The story was bad enough. A formerly promiscuous woman with four kids and three baby daddies meets her relatives who are all products of a pimp and his whores?? OK, well maybe there is a story there but Perry needs to learn how to make his stories more interesting. He spends too much time trying to preach the same things in almost all of his movies. We get it, Tyler. BLACK MEN!! PAY YOUR CHILD SUPPORT, SPEND TIME WITH YOUR KIDS, AVOID NEGATIVE ROLE MODELS AND RESPECT YOUR WOMAN. BLACK WOMEN!! STOP CHASING THUGS & BAD BOYS AND IGNORING THE GOOD BROTHAS AND STOP COLLECTING BABY DADDIES!!" How about making a movie next time instead of a PSA ?? Is this all we as black people have to say in movies??
Perry's characterizations are so broad. Sofia Vergara played a typical loud and aggressive Puerto Rican girl with only one or two emotions. She was just a cartoon. I can't believe Jenifer Lewis signed on to play such a buffoonish and stereotypcal part. Why does she always end up playing the same hateful jealous characters?? She has too much class for that though she was kind of funny. But what's up with David Mann character ??? That's some minstrel show style overacting for ya!! Nothing wrong with having a crazy character but why so over-the-top and ignorant? He was even butchering the ebonics. Wouldn't have been so embarrassing if he was at least funny rather than pathetic. Rick Fox needs to stick to basketball or get some acting lessons. A full set of teeth and some wavy curls aren't enough to prove you have acting talent.
Come on, Tyler. Make a real movie instead of trying to recreate the theater experience. They're two totally different things.
