lol...sorry i didnt read the other posts. just wanted to put in my two cents. wuld hav been more realistic if she actually looked poor. she looked middle classed to me

I'm glad they didnt make her look stereotypically poor. You all must know you can still be poor and be put together well. Plus who really wants to see the classy and dignified Angela Bassett look tore up? Nobody.

Aaaah in a movie where she is supposed to be poor...yeah we do want to see her look poor....otherwise we won't believe that she is poor.

I spent the entire time admiring her many outfits, nicely done makeup and nicely done, well treated hair.

I always thought the same thing when I saw Thelma on Good Times. She always had such nice looking clothes but yet J.J. wore that same ratty looking sweater all the time lol

Damn, y'all must not know people from the projects. First of all, there's always somebody's cousin, best friend, or whoever else that knows how to hook up the hair, for little to no money, maybe as long as you can do them a favor. I see people in the projects that have the newest stuff all the time. You all must watch too many movies, and think everybody from the ghetto looks like a crackhead or something. Some of your co-workers, and fellow classmates might be going back to a little old raggedy apartment, but they still look put together, and you'd never know. If anything, the way she looked was real, and not stereotypical at all. And her outfits didn't look like anything special. She could've gone to Rainbow and picked up some $5 jeans. What made you all think she was shopping at Saks or something?

I agree with everything you said. Broke folks will dress up like they're going out to the club with only $2 in their pockets. Just because someone is poor isn't an excuse to look busted all the time. I'm sure Brenda could least afford a comb, brush and hair cream. Poor people make the most out of tight situations.

I disagree overall. While Angelas character may have not been this way, but a lot of poor people who live in low income areas have the clothes, and the hair, and the nails because many of them have their priorities twisted. They will take the bill money or the rent money and buy clothes and get their hair done, instead of doing what they need to be doing. Then wonder why their lights off or why they have an eviction notice on their door. A lot of people just scrape up enough to get by, then move on to the next place, and go through the same type of crap all the time. But hey.......they always look good.....LOL.

it's easy to keep the hair up no matter how much $ you have, but the clothes did look kind of expensive. anyoneknow what clothing line it was?
