Is the title character a reference to this song. I have never seen the show but I've seen the commercials so I don't know anything about the show.

It's possible that is what they were thinking when they named him, though no connection is ever made apparent in the movie. Go ahead and skip the movie though, I just saw it and it was pretty lame. Not the worst I've seen, but bad enough.
