What am I missing?

I just watched this movie last night, and I have to say that it is not one of Tyler Perry's best. But I was continually mystified by the David Mann character. I just didn't find him funny in the slightest. I've never seen the Brown's plays, but from the clips I've seen, he's just not funny. The movie had its moments, but I felt that it came to a screaching halt at times and that was because of the Leroy Brown character.

well maybe you should go back a watch them to capture BROWN'S essence...

^ You should watch Brown's plays and not clips before you form a concrete opinion about him :-)

He wasn't the best in this movie, but I love his parts in Madea Goes To Jail.

I agree with the the OP. He wasn't funny. He was funnier in the blooper reel they showed at the end of the movie. I also found Jennifer Lewis' character to be unfunny. I don't know why a woman who has so much under her belt would play in movies where she is protrayed as uncouth, and downright ignorant.
