Channing Tatum bashes G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra on Howard Stern

Channing Tatum did not mince words when it came to discussing his role in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra during an interview with Howard Stern on Tuesday.

“Look, I’ll be honest. I f–king hate that movie. I hate that movie,” the Magic Mike XXL star said of the 2009 film. “I was pushed into doing that movie. From Coach Carter, they signed me to a three-picture deal […] They give you the contract and they go, ‘Three-picture deal, here you go.’ And as a young [actor], you’re like, ‘Oh my god, that sounds amazing, I’m doing that!’”

As Tatum recalled, he had found success with other projects, when the studio called with G.I. Joe.

“The script wasn’t any good,” he said, adding that he’d watched the namesake cartoon growing up and wanted to play Snake Eyes in the film. “I didn’t want to do something that I thought was 1.) bad, and 2.) I just didn’t know if I wanted to be G.I. Joe.”

Still, Tatum told Stern he was “super lucky and blessed to have been given that film.”

“That was really not all that bad,” he added. “[But you have] no option. ‘You’re doing this or we’re gonna sue you.’”

Listen to Tatum and Stern discuss G.I. Joe in the clip below. Tatum also opened up about his involvement in a potential second Ghostbusters reboot, which you can read more about here.

Wow, he sure have been speaking his mind lately.
Last week he bashed Jupiter Ascending.
This week GI Joe.
What's next weeks victim?

He;s right. The movie was a run-of-the-mill cluster f$#k. It used every cliche CGI trick in the book.

He's a lousy actor, regardless.

"Oh, my, where are my manners? Would either of you homicidal maniacs like some sweet tea?"

Who made a crummy and forgettable Duke.

And let's not forget when he was reading those damn cue cards off-screen in the beginning when being debriefed from Gen. Hawk

The War has only begun, will you defend your destiny?

Exactly how retarded do you have to be, to film movies - and then talk bad about them. You're the lead, you knew EXACTLY what you were getting into before signing the contract. Please, can he get any moar lame.

Actors trash movies their in all the time, usually after some time has passed and the reception was not too pleasant. But as another person said, he had signed a contract, and the movie was also made during the writer's strike so I can't imagine everything went so smoothly.

Well anyway you put it. I don't think it was very classy to bash it! A lot of people loved the toys as a kid which was the one and only reason for seeing the movie!! Plus im sure he got paid more money for this movie then regular people get working at a Mcdonalds or Tim Hortons so show a little bit of humilty and suck it up!! People would give there left finger for his role!! So he should thank his lucky stars for all the fame he receives!! Cause i saw magic mike and it wasnt really good storyline in my opinion either.

I think it's awesome when actors bash a movie.
I find it hard to believe that every actor loves the movie they're in.
Whether it looks good on paper but the director sucks or they're pressured into it contractually, or whatever...

I love when actors take a huge *beep* on movies they're in. I love it even more when they bash their fellow actors and the director and it ends up completely or nearly ruining their career.

I'd love to see actors like Bruce Willis and John Cusack talk about the *beep* direct-to-DVD movies they end up in when their careers start sliding.

There are very few actors I enjoy beyond their movies so I have no issues with seeing them stumble and fall. Especially when they start voicing their politics as if people give a *beep* what they think about anything.

I have to agree with Satyr..

It's about time, people stop pretending off screen. We all know that they HAVE to act when a camera is pointed at them. Whether they are good at it or not, is irrelevant.. Give them a break..

This is also why most people are so resentful, and disillusioned when they get to "chummy" "entitled" with a celeb, and get their feelings hurt. All of a sudden that person, who crossed a boundary - gets on the internet and says what THEY really think.. Not only about that celeb, but start bashing the works that they once idolized.

Folks who believe that celebs, "shouldn't speak their mind" or are supposed to "nice, and cute" at ALL times, are probably the same ones who had a hard time coming to grips when they found out that the "commercial" Santa Claus did not truly exist..

Speaking one's mind does not mean, "lack of class" - It shows an abundance of courage..

Kudos to Channing..
