Opens at #1 in Malaysia, Singapore and Lebanon!

The Legend of Hercules opened in 6 foreign countries this past weekend, and did good numbers with a $1.7 million debut overall.

$578,201 Malaysia (#1)
$394,887 Singapore (#1)
$300,403 Philippines (#2)
$174,572 Hong Kong (#5)
$161,034 Lebanon (#1)
$67,629 Croatia (#3)

It still has India, Greece, Hungary, Italy and Romania (January), Netherlands, Brazil, Turkey, Chile and Australia (February), Portugal, Belgium, France and UK (March) to open.

Some big markets like Russia, Germany, Mexico, Spain, Japan and China still don't have an official release date.

In only 18 days of release in foreign markets, the movie grossed $5,057,609 from 13 foreign markets.

Add in domestic gross of $17,139,255 and the movie grossed $22,196,864 total in only 19 days. Not bad considering such negativity over the internet.

I'm sure once it hits Russia, Germany, UK, Mexico and France (bigger markets) it can atleast reach its reported budget.

reply

The movie crossed $30 million worldwide, once it opens in all countries, it will end up with a $60 million total. Not that bad, and counting BD/DVD sales it will make a profit eventually.

reply

I'm not sure where you're getting your numbers. According to Box Office Mojo, this has grossed 19.85 million worldwide after four weeks in release. The film is pretty much played out theatrically, and I don't see any possible way it will come anywhere close to breaking even with DVD/television sales, since presumably it would have to earn 140 million before it shows a profit.

reply

You should look more carefully on BOM, as the international gross was not updated and it still stands at $1.7 million, that's the 1st weekend numbers only.

But if you click on Foreign gross you can count the grosses from all foreign countries.

reply

Okay, I double-checked the BOM numbers, and did notice that they hadn't updated the foreign total. Still, I'd be very surprised if this comes anywhere close to making the $140 million that it would theoretically need to pull in before it breaks even.

It opened at #1 in Greece, for those doubting it's success there.

We'll see how it did on opening weekend in Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands and Turkey. I'm positive this movie can gross atleast $50 million internationally when all is said and done.

Lionsgate announced that Hercules was made for 35 million dollars insted it budgeted 70 million, so it will get it's money back easilly. Rate will rise when peoples will see it more widley around the world. UK and Brazil are big countries...

reply

Anyone who is hoping for this film to do well in the UK is in for a let down. This film has had no advertising or word of mouth at all. Not many people even know it exists. It won't make any money here

reply

It would be interesting to see how will the Greeks view this movie, haha.
