This or 'Pompeii?'

This year we got two sword & sandal epics, and they were both box office flops. Are these films just going out of style again? Because there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in this kind of film these days. Anyway I'm wondering which of these two films people liked more. I much preferred "Legend of Hercules" to "Pompeii." I think visually speaking LOH is a much more beautiful film, and it has more of a story. I also had more fun watching this movie. "Pompeii" seemed to be mostly an excuse to show big special effects. I admit the CGI in that was quite impressive, but it was really just a formulaic disaster picture, where the audience is merely waiting for the volcano to erupt. any opinions on this? Which do you consider the better film?

Well, at least Pompeii was a bit more romantic.

Really? I found "Legend of Hercules" to be quite romantic as well. And Hebe and Hercules have got to be the most beautiful on-screen couple ever..it was pure fantasy. I especially love how everybody seems to be shrouded in a golden hue in Hercules..something about the lighting of that film gives it a dreamlike quality not seen in movies these days. I'm surprised more people didn't appreciate this.

Pompeii wasn't particularly good (I cannot put it past the status of guilty pleasure), but next to this it's freakin' Gladiator.

Though naturally that's just in my own opinion.

I loved both. I don't see why we need to pick just one. If someone really enjoys one of them, there should be a good chance they'll find the other worthwhile too.

yes, it's true, and I'm glad to hear you liked "Legend of Hercules" as well. Personally, I felt that Kiefer Sutherland's performance weakened "Pompeii," but I loved the romantic ending.. In fact, both films were quite romantic, which I wasn't expecting.

I'm just the opposite. I watched Pompeii about two weeks ago, and as I watching TLOH, all I could think was "This movie really needs a Kiefer Sutherland.". Let's face it, neither movie is Gladiator artistically, so why not chew a little CG-scenery and have some fun? But TLOH takes itself so damn serious--when the goings on are so absurd--that it zaps the enjoyment right out of it.

Okay, and I'm just the opposite about "Legend of Hercules" taking itself seriously; i think that was my favorite thing about the movie..that it didn't insult me with stupid comedy, which seems to be the new thing with fantasy films these days. After so much silly crap like "Thor 2" I found it refreshing to once again see an old school style fantasy movie on screen. That, combined with the film's beautiful look, made it really enjoyable for me.. It's all about personal taste i guess, and nobody is wrong or right in their opinion.

Pompeii even though it's not a masterpiece at least the actors had a better chemistry

Pompeii, because I have the biggest crush on Kit Harrington.....mmm

Both are bad but at least with Pompeii you can laugh at it and it is camp. Kiefer Sutherland was hilariously bad.

Neither one is all that good, but at least Pompeii kept my attention. Hercules was dreadfully boring.
