Seriously he blew me away.
I guess i just never thought of him as a real actor... i didn't think he had it in him.
But seriously... with all the rest of the great performances, He really stood out to me.
Anyone agree?
FYC: Taraji P Henson "...Benjamin Button"/ Columbus Short "Cadillac Records"
Columbus and Jeffrey Wright both blew me away. I guess I thought of him (Columbus) as a real actor, but I didn't single him out in his performances. I guess I was pretty neutral on what I thought of him before this movie. I liked him in Quarantine a couple of months ago, but I still didn't single him out (besides being the only black actor on screen most of the time in the movie). Then this movie came out, and it was just like damn...I didn't know he could get down like that. I didn't doubt him when I saw his name attached to the movie, but I just didn't expect that performance. And in my opinion, that's what makes a great performer; when they bring the unexpected. He's no longer just DJ in Stomp the Yard anymore, to me, lol. I really take him serious now. I expected no less from Jeffrey Wright though, he'll always be great in my book.
shareyep, his character was probably the hardest to portray but he did well both at the early part of his life where he's vibrant and lively and at the latter part where he's half the man. good job.

My favorite quote from Little Walter in the movie was:

He is truly remarkable in the film. I must admit I never took him that serious. I thought he was another dancer turned actor or better yet wannabe actor. But Columbus def. steals the movie and im not quite sure why him and Jeffrey Wright were not nominated for their roles. Beyonce was good but not worthy of a nomination. Jeffrey Wright and Columbus Short and even Adrien Brody are due for a nomination for their incredible performances

I completely agree. I also felt Mos Def was the spitting image of Berry and his covers were nice homages as well.

i smell Little Walter haters,you can't say Columbus Short of Accepted,Stomp The Yard,and That's So Raven didn't do an extravagent (sorry if i didn't spell it right) portrayal of Little Walter

He was great as Little Walter, but Jeffrey Wright was the best in this movie. Beyonce messed up the movie for me.
shareYes, he was the standout in the movie and the studio should have pushed for him to be Oscar nominated. It's effed up how the studio/producers did so little to promote this film.
Last films seen....Revolutionary Road - 9/10, Valkyrie - 8/10, Gran Torino - 9/10
He and Beyonce had the strongest performances in my opinion. Columbus Short did a great job
