The Howlin Wolf Song

The one he did in the studio when he stole Muddy's girl. I thought it sounded amazing even by today's standards. However I listened to a copy of that song and it was not the same version as the one in the movie. The original sounds average and boring unlike the one in the film. I checked the film credits and it says the song was done by Howlin Wolf. So that means there is either a different version that sounds like the movie version or they used computers to enhance/change the sound of the original. Does anyone have any info on this?

Actually all songs were done by the actors... I have the soundtrack.

On the dvd commentary it states the actors did their own vocals.

The song Howlin' Wolf did is "Smokestack Lightening." It was recorded in 1956. I have the recording Emaon Walker did and it's actually more bad ass than the original, and I like the original too. I think the soundtrack was the only thing they really did great because even Muddy Water's music sound better on the soundtrack.

The music in this movie was off the charts. They could all sing and I found some real respect for Beyonce from her renditions of Etta James.

Maybe the best soundtrack ever.

Sigh. Guys like Wolf did numerous recordings (of varying quality) of their signature tunes. Muddy was the same.

All the actors in this film sang their own songs.

The guy that played Walter was miming to Kim Wilson's playing when he "played" harp though.
