reply

so...when Dino de Laurentis produced Conan it was an italian film for italians, right?

suuuuuuuuure.

reply

When Dino de Laurentis is working with Universal Studios, I would say that it's aimed at English speaking nations. However there isn't an American producing this remake. And seeing as how the production company has only produced one other film (which is in the Italian language) I would assume that an Italian production company, with Italian producers means it'll probably be for Italian viewers. Besides, you were yelling at American studios for remaking it "(don't even think about it, americans!!!)" . American's aren't remaking it, regardless of who it's intended for.

reply

in this case it's more americans wannabe.

Let's see how many non-american actors will be cast in this potential garbage.

ps - do you work for this film?

reply

I agree that they're trying to immitate Hollywood and make a fast buck. No I don't work for it. I was on Argento's page and found this was being made.
I would rather it not be remade. I was just pointing out it's not an American company this time.

reply

fair enough.

keep it nice & bloddy.

reply

Maybe they're try to use the cool lighting and stuff. It might be interesting to see what they do with it.

reply

It will be hard..I mean, they're competing with the best film in Argento's career (though Profondo Rosso comes pretty close)

reply

I don't really see the point, either, regardless if the producers are Italian OR American. The original has become a classic over they years because it was so truly original during it's time. And it's still a great film.

As for any remake, they'd better get Goblin back together to do the score. I simply can't see anyone else doing the soundtrack that might even try to emulate that sound without sounding like a bad imitation. The score to the original is a classic.

reply

They could get the band Zombi to do the soundtrack, they're very heavily influenced by Goblin, but don't sound like a bad imitation. It's quality music. Check it out if you like -

Stupid people think Italians are Americans. You can't blame everything on us, so shut up about it.

If you are Anti-American: Admit you are doing it just to be cool. Does it feel good to hate?

"Suspiria still stands its ground. it's great film...why remaking it?"

simple: hollywood has no imagination and they have a fascination with butchering good films. i blame it all on George Lucas for starting the trend.

the american film industry is brilliant in my opinion--they have the resources money, and talent, but if they're gonna do a remake, they needa stick to the original as close as it was intended to be. the setting needs to be germany (although there were quite a few italian actresses in it), the dance needs to stay ballet, the music still remains Goblin, and the girls needa be white (hey just because america is multi-cultural doesn't translate the whole world is. and if you think i'm being racial or discriminatory, try living [not vacationing] in another country besides britain and ireland. you'll think America is the greatest country in the world).

i will hand this to foreign films: THEY HAVE AWESOME STORYLINES THAT HAVEN'T BEEN BEATEN TO DEATH!

reply

Suspiria actually takes place in Germany. I believe Argento was inspired by a trip he took to Austria. In some of the scenes actors are speaking in 3 different languages: English, Italian and German. Of course in the American version everything is dubbed over so you can't quite tell.

Anyway, I agree that Suspiria does not need a remake...the original is a colorful, trippy work of art. It's essence would be very difficult to recapture...

I'm not not licking toads.

reply

Dude, I am American and I dont want Suspiria remade.

I usually hate the idea of remakes but I'm kind of excited to see what happens with this.

--No more "remakes"!!!!--

reply

I never even heard of Suspiria before news of the remake. It will bring this movie to a whole new generation which I'm sure will make them want to see the original movie as well. It's not necessarily a bad thing. I know I'll be checking out the original very soon, but I can honestly say if remake news hadn't come out I wouldn't even be aware of this movie.

reply

There's no incentive if a new generation (strange since I wasn't even close to being born when the original was made) sees the remake and then discovers the original. It won't hurt my feelings if Suspiria remains lesser known considering it was an esoteric film to begin with. Unfortunately fewer and fewer remakes stay true to the original and as a result they usually butcher it and make it unwatchable (e.g. The Wicker Man). I think at the very least remakes could acknowledge their story derived from a previous version at the beginning of the film but instead the trailers and most marketing pretends the original never existed. As for the knock against Americans, thanks for that original genre referred to as, 'Spaghetti Westerns'.

You are aware in places like India they do more remakes than Hollywood right?

America isn't the only *beep* place with remakes stupid.

Agreed. There are remakes all over the world that are made just to capitalize on the success of previous films (Turkish Star Wars anybody?)

There are a multitude of reasons why this remake will pale in comparison the original. The first being the color pallet. Argento's use of color really helps make the film become more surrealistic. Sure modern cameras might be able to duplicate it, but will the director really take the same care in how to use the Reds, greens, and blues to heighten the tension or emotion on screen? Not in the same way Argento can.

The second is the score. Goblin has crafted one of, if not the, best horror scores in film history. It's ambient, atmospheric, creepy, and compliments the film so well. With the remake we might find shades of the original score, but it will be beefed up with techno. Ugh.

As much as I love 'Suspiria' there will always be room for improvement. The acting in parts were flat, and with good casting that can be fixed. The dialogue, though while appropriate for the 1970's, is heavily dated. These are small grievances though, and I'm honestly just trying to find anything that (in my opinion) could justify this remake.

I think this is a horrible idea, but my morbid curiosity will make me go see this in theaters.
