Could be awesome...

When I first heard they were remaking Suspiria, I was rabidly opposed. But the powers that be in Hollywood overruled my strenuous objections. ;-P

David Gordon Green is an intriguing choice for the director. Green's really good at developing characters, and George Washington and Undertow are terrific films. I don't think this will be simply an Argento re-do, but a reimagining of the basic story. Who knows where they'll go with it.

I didn't think remaking Dawn of the Dead was a good idea, but look how well that turned out. A lot of naysayers ended up liking it.

I'm cautiously optimistic, and definitely interested to see where this leads. Given the talent and director's track record, I'm thinking this could turn out awesome.

I'm gonna have to agree with you. I love argento's original, but I would love to see this version when it comes out. Not all remakes are horrible The Departed, King Kong(2005), and The Ring just to name a few.

King Kong (2005) was unnecessary and dumb. An insult to the original. I just hope they don't kick Argento's sublime vision in the teeth, too.

The thing with Suspiria is that it´s simply unremekable. If you take the story and do a reimagining on that it would suck, and if you do the stylish visuals and everything that made Argento´s film so great it would also suck because then it would be like Gus Van Sant´s Psycho. Gus Van Sant is a talented and renowned director, and so is David Gordon Green, but look how Psycho turned out, not to mention David Gordon Green´s films are of a totally different style than Suspiria or anything Argento would do.

DGG's films aren't too far from Suspiria, yes they cover completely different subjects, but the depth of character is there. I personally believe that Argento is an over-rated director and Suspiria is one of only a few triumphs of his, but I trust that Green will treat it with care. Look at Pineapple Express, that was him stepping completely out of his comfort zone, and he delivered us which is possibly his best film. This is proof that he can take on a genre outside of his comfort zone and flourish with it. So why not horror?

I am still unconvinced about the remake. I don't think no director could do it, not even Argento could remake Suspiria. He should try something else, Suspiria is one of the few films that are just so unique, that even if the remake ' fixes' it's flaws it would loose it's charm.

Hopefully the remake won't be as boring as the original.

I didn't find out Suspiria boring... but I agree that it has really loong scenes, and the atmosphere is heavy at times, because most of the film occurs in just one place.

There is something catchy about the movie, and why many people loves the movie is not really for the story, but how is portrayed.

I too have some faith in the choice of a director. Plus he's writing it and Natalie Portman is a good choice. Looks like they could get this right.
