Is anyone else (besides me)

Not really shocked about the remake per say, but more so about their choice in director? I mean can a comic director like David Gordon Green really fill in the shoes of someone as meticulous to aesthetics like Argento is? I found this to be an odd choice.

you mean a "comedy" director?

well, the choice is not that odd, David Gordon Green is not only a comedy-oriented director, he's a good one.
and a movie look is not given by the director alone. Take the original suspiria, would have been that good withouth Luciano Tovoli and Goblin?
The only thing that can spoil this remake is the acting, just like it happened to the 1977 version.

He's a good director imo. his film "Undertow" while I didn't like it was consistantly quirky and odd and a bit creepy. I think he'll be able to capture the creepy/surreal atmosphere of Argento's film.

I am not sure why everyone is so angry about this remake. While it is definitely a classic, it does have it's flaws. And, agreed, the original needed Goblin to be what it was. Don't underestimate David Gordon Green's talent. Just because he chooses to direct comedy doesn't mean he doesn't have the chops. I am usually against remakes, this remake I am curious. A movie like this shouldn't just be dumped off on a hack horror director.

The original sucked... the storyline, the witches, the school, the big butch dyke that wanders about, seriously it was pointless, I mean granted it's just a horror film, but seriously, they couldn't remake it any worse then the original was.

I love old horrors, especially Lucio Fulci's trilogy, but this was utter rubbish. Maybe I was expecting far too much considering EVERYONE on here praises it like it's the best thing ever, but I was dissapointed, and bored.

Maybe you guys are right. It just caught me off guard is all. I'm all for directors and actors and people in general doing things they aren't expected anyways. I'm not against remakes as long as they are good. I never protested this, just found the director choice a little surprising. Some of my favorite films are remakes. I mean, the magnificent seven, a dirty carnival, the fly (cronenberg's) so let's see. I'm anxious.
