Aged well (and improves on repeat viewings)
Went to see this at the cinema in 2008, and thought it OK (if a bit underwhelming) and bought it on Blu-ray a few years later (and in solitude, it improved slightly, but still lacked something?)
Just watched it again, and the fact that it always seemed largely un-memorable....made it feel like a new movie (I suddenly picked up on little nuances) whilst it still has a few problems, it's a pretty good cop thriller (if a little contrived in places, but nothing unforgivable, I guess?)
HEAT (in retrospect) seems to have lost it's 'lustre' over the years (cinematography aside) but that's maybe over-familiarity/exposure creeping in? Whereas 'RIGHTEOUS KILL' (by no means a better movie than HEAT) seems a little more multi-layered than initially perceived (with repeat viewings) and it's freshness pertains to the fact that it was largely ignored and promptly buried after it's release.
