So, in the future they're still using .EXE files?!

SPOILERS

I found that part hilarious when Logan Lerman's character's computer system got hacked and the hacker told him to download an ".EXE" walkietalkie file so he could talk to Kable!! LOL.

Huh? WTF. Why would the exe file change in the future? (its just the shortcut for a executable file......)

reply

Well, Adober AIR files are already becoming more prevalent I would just assume that a program as advanced and technological like shown in the movie would require a different platform or something newer if that make sense.

You know what happens when you assume, haha. Join this bub with the assumption-of-the-future crowd: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1034032/board/nest/190923631

Do we even get a year or a timeframe for this movie?

reply

Well, no. exe files are used by everyone, Adobe air is used by few people and it is not widespread, its not even accessible to the general population as most folks dont have the programs to run it.
Exe is an executable file that can have ANYHING in it, and thats what make it universal program starter. they will not go away unless we completely revolutionize the way computers work overnight, which is pretty much impossible save for an apocalypse.

I don't use .exe's all the time...

My Linux computer doesn't use .EXE's
My mac doesn't use .EXE's

.exe is a Windows thing.. and you can't be serious in thinking that windows will be the only OS out there in the future....

reply

Windows controls 95% of the market, and while Linux and Mac grow in popularity, they are still small and insignificiant in comparison.
Windows will not be the only OS, but it will very likely remain dominating one. Especially on gamer demographic since most games are not crossplatform.

This movie was taking place in alternative present time or very near future. Remember, there is Bill Gates mentioned, no back to the future hover-boards. I think those "exe" files will be here as long as there will be new Windows versions coming (at least ten years or so).

So, in the future they're still using the term walkie talkie?
