Elizabeth and Brian's affair's status before boating accident?
Did Brian end the affair with Elizabeth or was it still going on prior to the accident? Does it ever say in the book?

shareHaven't read the book, but from what I remember they did clarify in the film that they were having the affair right up until the accident. The friend of Elizabeth (Kai) said that she was going to give Matt the divorce papers and everything.

Does anyone know if the day she got in the accident, was the day Brian told her it was over. Did he ever tell her it was over? Explain?
No he didn't. Read the above posts.
I'm writing this signature in bold so people know it's a signature
I don't know what's in the book, though that's not dispositive anyway, as the movie could be different.
There's no indication he ever dumped her. Events that would be significant plot points are generally provided by the storyteller.
- Her best friend clearly thought it was still going on, and wasn't aware that Speer breaking it off was even likely. Okay, sure, that might be because he told her twenty minutes before she crashed and she didn't have a chance to tell her best friend.
- Speer said nothing about having dumped her when Matt talked to him. Indeed, he at least tacitly indicates the opposite. If he had broken it off, he would have said that early on in the conversation by way of exculpating himself. As it is he just mumbles stuff about how he let it go on longer than he should have. Matt directly mentions it, saying that her accident spared Speer the difficulty of dumping her. Speer is angry, and says "That's so unfair [blah blah blah]." If he had dumped her, it's hard to figure out why he wouldn't have said so.
Bottom line: it's up to the storyteller to communicate significant plot points, not to rule them out. If you want to make up your own, go ahead, but they're not in the story. It's also possible that the accident was a suicide, or a homicide engineered by environmentalists trying to influence Matt into not selling the Kaui land.
