So, their mother is dying and he takes his 2 daughters chasing her lover during her final days? when my mother was dying i stayed at the hospital with her, and can't believed someone would leave just like that and enjoy the beach and plan childish ways to get at a total stranger. You would have to be incredibly immature or disconnected to do such a thing. Even if you are mad, as a parent you can't do such a thing.
shareI think the film is at pains to paint Matt as not a shining example of fatherhood and invalid carer, just as we find out his wife is not the model spouse and mother he'd fooled himself into thinking she was.
Quite honestly considering Matt's circumstances I found the story quite believable and his girls were more than happy to go, especially since Alex was estranged from her mother...a fairly crucial plot point in the film.
Yeah, I think it was partly for Matt, but also for Alex because of the fight she had with her mother about the affair. Alex needed closure too.
