As great as Clooney is in this he still kinda doesn't fit in it

I think the main reason is Clooney given his persona cannot play a family man (husband or father). I could not see him as a man with a wife and kids with that kinda selflessness that it requires.

To a certain degree that's why Up in the Air was his best performance because he was playing a middle age man with no connection to anyone by his own calculating decision.

Interesting take. I couldn't disagree more. I thought this was one off his best performances to date, especially since he doesn't have children.

Yeah, the whole point is he's detached from his family and generally clueless about what's going on with them. Only after the wife goes into a coma does he finally confront things. So besides this just being a great movie, it's also perfect for somebody like Clooney. It would be harder to believe Clooney playing a devoted family man who had no ambitions outside keeping his wife and kids happy.

I also disagree. This is my favorite Clooney role and imo he had a trio of great movies/roles in Up in the Air, The Ides of March and Descendants. Watch them every year.

I think those were all mediocre like all Clooney movies. His only halfway good role was Solaris and it can't hold a candle to the original by Andrei Tarkovsky. Clooney is smug, arrogant, flat, conceited, dull and pretentious.

He was also a bully. That boy or someone else should have punched his face in. I wanted to punch him most of the movie. He's dumber than that kid sleep walking through his life and being an abusive turd. But people love him because he's a pretty boy. Screw him.

Clooney can't act period. All he does is play himself which is flat, vacant, smug and pretentious..

reply

Well he is playing someone who is not sure how to raise his kids going as far as asking advice to that retarded Sid so it fits.
