Usually, High School comedies tend to be fast-paced with scenes everywhere, but this one actually had scenes that were longer and more slow-paced which kind of made the movie interesting and fun to see!
I don't know why people are hatin' this movie, maybe they all like the over-the-top American Pie-jokes and so on. I mean, it was better than most of the new High School/Teenage films like the new American Pie movies.
any scene with the three military guys was completely unbelievable... i doubt any average high schooler could do the things they did. even if they COULD do backflips, throw microwaves and jump off roofs without a second guess... why? to beat up some kid who poses absolutely NO threat to getting between you and your girlfriend? someone's insecure...
but the movie wasn't that bad, sure it was a storm of high school cliches, but it handled itself well... i personally like how they brought back up the topic of Beth's brother dying with the talk her and the guy had by the lake, rather than leaving it as a one-time joke.
anyways, the makers seemed to actually CARE about what they were making, and tried to make it good; they just didn't know how...
We've come to the conclusion that The Bird is greater than or equal to The Word.
The movie itself was well done and well constructed! Although I wouldn't call it 'Realistic'it does kind of make you wanna live life to the fullest when you are young.
and just a note...the military guys weren't in high school...they had graduated.
I actually thought this movie was surprisingly dark even though it was advertised as a broad comedy. It wasn't all that funny and shouldn't have been advertised the way it was. It dealt with and brought up issues that most high school movies don't because they glamorize everything. Inlcuding but not limited too: sexual abuse, childhood abuse, death of a family member, physical violence, drunk driving, sexual orientation and the reality of someone who you idealize because you like them while they may just be a normal *beep* up person. How many 'teen film comedies' can you think of that have all of these issues in the film?
' PythononRedbull... You make a number of interesting and valid points. I think in part this is why we are seeing the negative reactions from the theoretical "target" audience / group; whereas, generally, the more positive feedback is coming from individuals who fall outside that classification by dint of age - generally having more years behind them than those most frequently assumed to be part of the natural target-market.
' Now. On another topic. I just thought I would reply to some of the comments made by some of the earlier posters too - those claiming there's not really much "realism" to (some / many) aspects of the film... ' I can honestly, and without hesitation respond to you by saying: YOU'D BE SURPRISED!!! ' I myself have been witness to such events more than once, and have lived through and experienced similar a few times too! ' The world is a big place and it really allows for and caters to just about any kind of experience you can imagine. Life can be pretty wild and "unbelievable" at times. :-D
