Advertised WRONG was NOT a comedy more DRAMATIC

This film was NOT as funny as it was advertised...which was a broad comedy. This was NOT a broad comedy, instead it was an odd look and take on the darker things that actually do occur in high school and real life. Themes Including but not limited to: drug use, sexual abuse, sexual oritentation, physical abuse, relationship abuse, drunk driving, not having enough money to afford college, death of a family member, and familial issues in general.
How many 'high school comedies' even bring up these issues? The reason why I Love You Beth Cooper felt so off was because no one was expecting any of these issues to be mentioned. It was NOT a high school comedy, it was NOT a glamorized version of high school. The directors, writers, and publicists should have made a better effort to fit this film in the corect category. The comedy was misplaced and not used well and most the dramatic elements were dealt with awkwardly.

It really was more dramatic and honestly those were the best scenes. The quiet ones with Beth realizing she's worthless and Dennis telling Rich he didn't have to fake it. The end was especially moving.
