when beth takes dennis and everyone into the school she claims she has to key to the school since she was the head cheerleader.
But she graduated earlier on in the movie, so wouldn't she have to give the key back? She's no longer a student, or the head cheerleader...

that makes sense, also maybe she made a spare key in case the first one got lost, and didn't give the spare one back.
i can't imagine why she would want to keep either one though. she had no purpose going back to the school since she graduated.

This story took place the night of graduation so maybe Beth just forgot to turn the key back into the school.
I think that's a better explanation than the spare key idea I came up with.

at first i was wondering if she did forget to give it back, then why would she want to keep it when she realized she had it?
Then i remembered who crazy how school seniors are, they love to leave their mark on their graduation day and probably would want to break in the school and do something crazy.
maybe she kept it on purpose just in case she had a horrible time at dennis's house, she and her other friends could still break in the school and go crazy later on in the night.
