I just watched that bit and it made me laugh too!!
But what do you say when you are cutting somones arm off?
"Cut faster"
"I can't get through the bone with this *beep* knife"
I know what you mean, but the line fit the context. He passed out and so did not know what was happening when they started cutting.
He would immediately think the creature was breaking his arm around again - so they were reassuring him that the pain was not due to the creature and was in fact them trying to save him.

shareCorrect! That line was definitely intended to be at least a little bit funny, it was there to break the tension a little. Along with "I'm going to blow a hole in you big enough to watch TV through!" it was one of my favorite lines in the script.
