Hey calebcox,
This is not a rip-off from 'The Amazing Mr Blunden'.
Firstly, 'From Time To Time' is based on the Green Knowe book series written by Lucy M. Boston from 1954 to 1976 and this film is an adaptation from the second book the book 'The Chimneys of Green Knowe published in 1958.
'The Amazing Mr Blunden' was based on Antonia Barber's 1969 book 'The Ghosts', eleven years after Boston's book.
Boston's book was written and published before Barber's so I guess it's fair to say the latter had a similar story or borrowed elements of it from the former.
There are similarities in both films where a fire destroys much of the huge house, the children travel back in time, the characters are a century apart and it is Christmas time.
There are differences where in 'From Time To Time' only one character travels back in time while in 'The Amazing Mr. Blunden' there are two.
In 'From Time To Time', Tolly stumbles across the ghost of Susan and 'sees' her but he has not been enlisted as her helper to travel to the past. The ghosts in 'The Amazing Mr. Blunden' come to Lucy and Jamie for help. Lucy and Jamie have to drink a magic potion to travel back in time, but Tolly didn't have to drink anything magical.
The film 'From Time To Time' is set in 1944 and Tolly travels back to 1809 but 'The Amazing Mr. Blunden' is set in 1918 and the children travel back 100 years.
I understand why you think this is similar to 'The Amazing Mr. Blunden' but the drama in the films and the ending of both films are very different. I enjoyed both films.
