Rose Tico returns
do you hope so?
shareGod no. She added nothing good. Her primary purposed seemed to be to undermine Finn.
shareI hated when she crashed into him to stop his suicide run.
TLJ was garbage, although some attention deficit supporters claim the "subversion" as something great. But rather than nonsense like making Luke an idiot or fooling us with steaming irons, having one of the main characters (who wasn't the legacy 90 year old) killing themselves half way through a trilogy would have been genuine subversion.
It wouldn't have saved the film but it would at least have given it something.
True that.
But, Just wanted to say re losing FInn.
Finn's stormtrooper background, was one of the best parts of the new trilogy. Or it hinted at shit that could have been one of the best parts. The initial introduction, with a character that seemed to be a really experienced rebel, becuase he knew so much about the stormtroopers, and was heading towards the rebel base, where the closer he got the sooner his lies would inevitably blow up in his face?
That WAS GOOD SHIT! That was a good start to a character, taht could have led to some interesting shit. But instead it sourt of just.... stopped.
Grrr....
I'm kind of torn on whether Finn, i.e. in concept, a traumatized rogue stormtrooper could have been good.
On one hand, I'm against the modern need to deconstruct old school film "baddies", which I think for Star Wars started with the comedy take on the killing the poor guys just doing their jobs in the Death Star. So the humanising a Stormtrooper for a plotline kind of feeds into that and that seems a bit lame...
On the other hand, ignoring that and done correctly it could have brought something new and interesting to the Star Wars table.
Unfortunately though, the execution was a complete joke - like you said, they had him bumbling along with the janitor reveal; they had him traumatized at seeing his fellow stormtroopers getting killed, then 10 mins later had him high fiving Poe as they gunned down other imperial buddies (!) and then had him drinking from the trough in the ultimate humiliation of the character...
So, even going with the concept, they utterly blew the character straight from the off. But then I guess that also means ignoring the fact they'd clearly written him as the DT's Jar Jar.
Pretty much.
