STOP MAKING REMAKES

DID THE ACTORS AND DIRECTOR AND CINEMATOGRAPHER AND EDITOR GET TO KEEP THE PHONES THAT THEY ALL CALLED IN THEIR PERFORMANCES ON?

I thought maybe it would be okay... even Sam was awful and i just love him...this will go in the list with the crappy remakes like RED DAWN, TRUE GRIT, AND CARRIE. all of those original movies were perfect...but Hollywood came in a screwed up those memories with their insufferable and let's face it, LAZY, remakes.

The original Poltergeist was funny, lovable, and scary. It made me laugh out loud and cry every time i watched it. i think i chuckled once during this rendition.

Please, if you are going to do a remake. Start with a movie that wasn't very good to begin with but maybe would have been if it were correctly cast or re-written.

STOP MAKING REMAKES

I've been saying that for YEARS.

I think the first remake was in 1905, don't think they are stopping any time soon.

There seem to be more, recently, though, and at a lower quality compared to what the technology should be capable of producing.

It's remarkable when today's studios can take campy movies of low production value from 30 years ago and make an inferior product... even more remarkable when it's a ubiquitous trend.

Exactly, there are a LOT more and the quality is laughable. Hollywood simply doesn't care anymore about the Movies they make. It's ALL about the big bucks.

They count you at the Theater even if you walk out or hated the Movie. You are included anyway in the numbers. It's like Avatar, after the novelty wore off people realized it really wasn't that great.

reply

It's a matter of just attempting a flash in the pan. They don't care if the movie is remembered 10 years from now. Just cash in and move on.

As for Avatar... at least it had some novelty. And while it wasn't tremendously original in terms of plot, it at least had some timeless themes (even if they were told before) and some interesting visual art. Not to say Avatar was greater than it was, just pointing out it had some elements above what the common Hollywood fodder has to offer at the moment.

I mean hey, hate it or love it Avatar is still being discussed 8 years later, so it did SOMETHING right. This will be forgotten in a year at best. The themes in Avatar was timeless because it was basically Pocahontas with names changed btw.

Stop watching them then.

Step one: stop watching them. I mean, you're on here complaining about how they keep making remakes, but you watched this one.

Making remakes is NOT the problem.

Making AWFUL remakes IS.

I am OK with movies being redone with new cast, story additions/improvements in new settings, etc. The problem is, it needs to keep the original movie's DNA.

reply

Agree busterboo. Everything you said, particularly about this turkey, was spot on.

I can't think of many remakes I've enjoyed. But this is a shocker. The original was brilliant- funny, frightening and charming, but this remake has all the charm of week old cabbage soup. Sam is such a fantastic actor - think of his diverse performances in The Green Mile and Galaxy Quest. What mind altering drugs was he on when he said yes to this?

I'm not opposed to remakes, but if you're going to remake a film, make it better than the original, otherwise what's the point?

Do the P-I-G-E-O-N

Wouldnt call this a remake exactly...they mention Carol Anne.
