I know they had the girl tortured at the basement and stuff but did the family know about it? and why did they take the other girl ( not the one which sliced her throat but the other girl)

The girl was kidnapped and tortured as a little girl by the husband/father of that family.
After she grew up (insane), she got this friend she had made since childhood to accompany her to the family's home (after they'd located the man), and she killed him and his whole family for revenge. Later, she kills herself. The friend who accompanied her out of love and loyalty and stayed after she died and tried to help the other woman (from the basement; YES, the husband/dad knew she was there), stayed too long, and others show up that are involved with the man. It's like a cult of killers who are fascinated by and doing scientific study of the religious phenomenon of "martyrs", those who suffer and die for a "cause". She is then taken hostage by them and tortured the rest of the film as they test her "limits".
